Complete Review of BooksFree
BooksFree is the largest online catelogue of books - but this includes both paperback and audio titles. There are 79,800 paperback titles and 13,800 audio book titles. This is certainly enough to keep you busy. BooksFree has been in operation since the year 2000 and has grown ever since. In addition to the latest best-selling titles, BooksFree prides itself in also offering access to hard-to-find titles in both paperback and audio format.
Site Functionality
BooksFree has a very user-friendly site - perhaps one of the most user-friendly sites that we have seen yet. When first entering the site, you'll see a series of tabs at the top of the page that are clearly marked. Each part of the site can be accessed through these tabs, including browsing for titles or viewing the available plans and pricing options.
How the site works is pretty simple: You'll sign up at the site and then begin adding titles to your rental queue. Your titles are then shipped to you for free. After you finish listening to your titles, you ship them back (also for free), and then you'll receive the selections that are next in line in your rental queue. What's really cool about BooksFree is that you can purchase your audio book for a discounted price if you like your selection.
Why It's Different
BooksFree is different from other audio book sites that we've reviewed for a couple of reasons. First, it is the only audio book site that also offers paperback rentals. If you'd prefer to read a selection instead of listen to it, you have this option. Second, you can purchase your titles for a discounted price if you really like the book.

MP3-CD Audiobook Plans
1 at-a-time: This plan includes 1 audio book rental at a time. You may not rotate multiple orders (meaning you cannot rent both audio book and paperback format). Pricing is $9.99 per month.
2 at-a-time:This plan includes two audio book rentals out at a time with unlimited monthly rentals. With this plan, you can rotate multiple orders. The cost per month for this plan is $15.99.
3 at-a-time: Includes 3 audio books out at a time with no limit to the number of audio books you can have out per month. You may rotate multiple orders, and the cost of this plan is $23.99 per month. This plan, as all BooksFree plans, includes unlimited monthly rentals.
4 at-a-time: With this plan, you can have four audio books out at a time and unlimited monthly rentals. You may rotate multiple orders and mix paperback with audio books if you wish. The cost of this plan is $31.99 per month.
CD/MP3-CD Audiobook Plans
These plans will allow you to rent audio books in both CD and CD-MP3 format. If you're not aware of the difference, a CD-MP3 is simply a compact disc with MP3 tracks on it instead of standard CD audio. It can be played by all computers and most CD players that are available today.
1 at-a-time: With this plan, you can have one audio book out at a time and unlimited monthly rentals. You may not rotate multiple orders. The cost of this plan is $19.99 per month.
2 at-a-time: With this plan, you can have two audio books out at a time and unlimited monthly rentals. You may rotate multiple orders and mix paperback with audio books if you wish. The cost of this plan is $24.99 per month.
3 at-a-time: With this plan, you can have three audio books out at a time and unlimited monthly rentals. You may rotate multiple orders, and this plan costs $33.99 per month.
4 at-a-time: With this plan, you can have four audio books out at a time. You may rotate multiple orders. The cost of this plan is $39.99 per month.
Additional Features
In addition to being able to rent books in both paperback and audio book format and purchasing books that you like for discounted rates, there are also gift subscriptions available. You may choose your gift subscription from the paperback club, the CD-MP3 club, or the CD/CD-MP3 club.
